LENASIA POWER OUTAGE HITS THOUSANDS AS STORMS DELAY REPAIRS

BY LERATO PHOSISI

Thousands of residents across Lenasia are without electricity today after a fault at a key substation, with utility crews warning that severe weather could slow restoration efforts.

City Power confirmed the outage originated at the Nirvana Substation, specifically affecting Transformer 1 Incomer. The failure has cut supply to multiple residential areas, including Lenasia Extensions 3, 5, 7, 9 and 10.

“Due to inclement weather conditions, our response time to outages may be affected,” a City Power spokesperson said. “As a result, repairs and restoration may be delayed until conditions improve and it is safe for our teams to work.”

The utility said it is aware of the disruption and technicians have been dispatched to assess damage at the substation. No estimated time for restoration has been given yet.

For many households, the timing could not be worse. With winter temperatures and online activity peaking in the mornings, residents in the affected extensions reported losing power, internet, and refrigeration. Local businesses also face losses as backup generators run low on fuel.

City Power urged customers to treat all lines as live and to switch off appliances to prevent damage when supply returns. Updates will be issued once weather conditions allow crews to safely access the fault.
