8 June 2026 | Fine Town, Johannesburg —
A Grade 12 female learner from Fine Town High Secondary School was struck by a silver BMW on 7 June 2026, Sunday morning at approximately 10:30 AM, just a few metres away from the school premises.
According to reports, the driver fled the scene immediately after the incident, leaving the learner lying on the road. Friends of the injured learner came to her assistance, carried her to safety, and took her back to the school.
Teachers at the school subsequently transported the learner to hospital for medical treatment.
It is alleged that the vehicle involved in the incident was overcrowded and that its occupants were intoxicated at the time of the collision. The vehicle has reportedly been seen in the Mountain View and Grasmere areas.
The learner is currently recovering at Lenasia South Hospital.
At the time of reporting, no case had been opened with the South African Police Service (SAPS). Further information is expected as the matter develops.
